Free to play. Festivals are optional one-time purchases.

Manthan on a phone: Vasuki coiled round the first squares of the mountain. The Diwali festival: the board lit by rows of lamps. The Holi festival: colour clouds over the board as Vasuki is churned. The Sankranti festival: kites around the whole mountain on a blue sea.

How it plays

A turn on the mountain

The board is the old Moksha Patam, where ladders are virtues and snakes are vices. It spirals up Mount Mandara, and the mountain keeps moving.

A turn in Manthan: the bless, raise ladder, curse and spin buttons beside the karma wheel. The karma wheel at Diwali, its slices sized by the player's karma. The churning at Holi: pull Vasuki's tail or his head.

Three endings

The game remembers how you climbed

Everyone is racing to the amrita. How you get there decides which story is told when you arrive.

Deva

On blessings

Reach the amrita having helped others along the way, as the devas did. Good karma bends the wheel your way.

Manav

Somewhere between

A little kindness, a little spite. The human ending, for those who climbed the way most of us do.

Asura

On curses

Steal the amrita like Rahu. Sink low enough and the snakes treat you as kin, but the ladders, being virtues, turn you away.

Treasures from the ocean

Every churning brings something up

Each time the ocean is churned, a treasure lands on the mountain. End your spin on it to take it.

  • Kaustubha, a ruby pendant set in gold and pearls.

    The jewel

A blessing for you: your next snake drops you only halfway.

  • Kalpavriksha, a golden tree with green jewelled leaves.
